Research, Innovation and Knowledge transfer

The DEAN (Deans' European Academic Network) Conference in Porto (26-28 September 2004) examines the strategic steps and coordination needed at regional, national and European levels between universities, industry and governmental bodies to encourage world class research, market-oriented research and its implications for the less research intensive institutions.

26 September 2004 - 28 September 2004
Portugal
The focus of the conference is the critical role European universities play in the ambitious objectives set out in Lisbon 2000, for the European Union to become the most competitive knowledge-based economy in the world by 2010.
How can universities respond to these challenges, become more entrepreneurial, stimulate innovation, produce and transfer knowledge to society, and contribute to local and regional socio-economic growth, while at the same time be competitive at the global level. How can they work in partnership with private companies to reinforce their strengths to ensure better dissemination and exploitation of their knowledge. How can newer HEIs with less intensive research compete?
Commissioner Philippe Busquin will open the Conference, and keynote adresses will be made by other high level speakers from European institutions, as well as from the private and corporate sector and higher education institutes. Workshops will supplement the plenary sessions, and there will be plenty of opportunity for an exchange of expertise and networking.
