International conference on libraries in the learning community
The conference will include presentations of case studies and a series of addresses from keynote speakers, including representatives from the European Commission, the British Government, academia and the private sector. The conference aims to address the central role of libraries in the learning community agenda, and how improved access to learning opportunities can be achieved through such elements as strategic knowledge of global networks and information technology.
The objectives of the conference are therefore to:
- Explore the vision of learning communities within the Information Society and the challenge of providing learning throughout life;
- Establish the central role of libraries in all sectors for facilitating and supporting lifelong learning and active citizenship;
- Learn about successful current models of library partnership and provision in learning communities throughout the world;
- Consider how libraries must change and develop new strategic partnerships at local, regional and national levels in order to play an even more effective role in their learning communities.
