12 October 2004 - 14 October 2004
United Kingdom
We are now almost a year on from the first presentation of the Commission's proposal for a complete overhaul of the EU chemical substances policy - the REACH chemical policy. The policy will affect all facets of chemical management in Europe, and in recent months the Chemicals Industry has witnessed some of the fiercest debate and lobbying that the EU has ever seen. It has now been generally accepted that the REACH policy is going to become part of everyday life for the chemicals industry, but the debate is continuing as to exactly what form it will take. People are striving to find a balance in order to face up to health and environmental needs, whilst at the same ensuring the workability of the new legislation so as to not stifle competitiveness and innovation in the industry.
We are now reaching a stage when the legislation relating to the REACH policy is due to be examined by the European Parliament and the Council, which means that this is a key period, and one which will determine the future shape of the legislation. This conference will hear contributions from top-level political and industry speakers, and make a detailed examination of the key points surrounding the workability debate. It will provide practical and strategic information on how the REACH policy will affect both upstream and downstream users of chemicals, including ways of incorporate the legislation into a successful business strategy and a look at a variety of pilot studies and other areas of strategic research involving the policy. There will also be a panel discussion on the 'definitive' impact assessment of REACH which was launched earlier this year by the Commission in conjunction with CEFIC, WWF and UNICE. It will include representatives from all the major players involved. In addition, we will be looking at global chemical management systems, and how REACH fits in with some of these, as well as current issues in the field of Green Chemistry.
Who should attend? ,This topic should be understood by all management levels, political and public affairs staff, legislators, risk assessors in chemical companies, academics, NGOs and public interest groups. The main sector beneficiaries would be anyone involved in the chemical industry, and would include those involved plastics and all peripheral industries who distribute, transport, design software and support the industry. The conference could also interest heavy industries and manufacturers that use chemicals in their production, as well as anybody wanting to gather knowledge about the benefits and opportunities surrounding the market changes that are going to be brought about by the implementation of REACH.
What will I get from this? ,This high-level event, brought to you by EU Conferences, comprehensively covers the topic of Chemicals Policy in Europe and initiatives elsewhere to create Sustainable Chemicals Management. In addition to the 2 day conference, the attendee also has the option to attend a full day workshop which will explore in greater detail some of the major issues that are being discussed. This event offers a marvelous opportunity to gain a thorough understanding of all the key thinking, debates, and politics surrounding the subject, and possibly even more importantly, will give you a definitive insight into how the REACH policy is going to affect your business.
The event also offers excellent networking potential and is an opportunity not to be missed. We hope to see you at this important European event.
