ILA'98, an international aerospace exhibition will be held in Berlin, Germany, from 18 to 24 May 1998. The exhibition will involve 600 exhibitors from all over the world, including leading US aerospace companies and numerous representatives of the aerospace industry from Russia, Eastern Europe and Asia.

The aim of the exhibition is to offer a forum for promoting business and cooperation between international aerospace companies, featuring for the first time a strong representation of countries from Central and Eastern Europe. The forum should also provide opportunities for international involvement in European Aerospace projects and should facilitate contacts and the exchange of scientific and commercial knowledge between international aerospace experts.

The exhibition will comprise a display of products on space travel, humanitarian flight missions, air transportation and airport systems. A special exhibition will showcase airport technology. There will also be ground displays of products ranging from ultralight sportscraft to wide-bodied aircraft. The exhibition will also feature flight demonstrations and customer flights directly from the exhibition site.

A supporting programme will run in parallel with the exhibition and will include an extensive conference and convention programme featuring:

- Industry fair for maintenance, repairs and overhaul;
- The first World Air Transport conference;
- East/West Aerospace centre which will offer a programme of conferences and will provide advice and information on civil aviation;
- Special show marking the 50th anniversary of the Berlin airlift;
- International space station featuring a full mock-up of the European research laboratory Columbus.

The exhibition will also feature presentations from the European Space Agency (ESA) in conjunction with the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI). This will include the fourth "Raumfahrthalle", which will present current and future European space activities as well as the German National Space Programme.
