Training Workshop on "Efficient Management of Science and Technology Parks"

Two full days of intense knowledge transfer on Science and Technology Parks, taking place on 19-20 September 2004 in Bergamo, Italy. The Training Workshop is organised by the International Association of Science Parks (IASP), in co-operation with UNESCO and the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations (UNDESA).

Science/Technology Parks and Technopoles are very powerful tools for regional and local development, and are instrumental in leading nations and regions into the new Knowledge Economy. But planning, developing and managing a Science/Technology Park is complex. In support of the various new Science/Technology Park projects being developed in many regions of the world, especially in Asia and Africa, the International Association of Science Parks (IASP), in co-operation with UNESCO and the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations (UNDESA), is organising a training workshop on "Efficient Management of Science and Technology Parks". This IASP-UNESCO-UNDESA seminar is designed to share the experience of our experts in this field with new and future Science / Technology Park managers and policy-makers. In the past, the highly customised, flexible, dynamic and practical approach employed in these Training Workshops have proven to be a very effective way to share knowledge on the fundamentals of designing, launching and managing a new Science and Technology Park.
In the workshop there are no 'teachers' and 'students', just very experienced managers willing to sharing their practical know-how with their colleagues. This customized training workshop is designed to meet your needs because its content will be based on your questions and comments!
Among the topics relevant to Science and Technology Park management covered are: Choosing the appropriate model, Master planning, Financial aspects, Infrastructure, Services, Incubation of new companies, Promotion and marketing, Networking, Human resources, Outsourcing policies, Public Relations and Co-operation with University and Industry; as well as any other topic you may suggest.
You will benefit from the availability of six Science/Technology Park managers willing to answer your questions and share their experience with you:,Marco Baccanti, Italy, President of the IASP, and Director General of San Raffaele Science Park;,Jean François Balducchi, France, Director General of the Nantes Technopole, and President of France Technopoles Enterprises Innovation;,Pierre Belanger, Canada, Director General of the Laval Technopole, and President of the Quebec Association of Science and Technology Parks;,Sten Gunnar Johansson, Sweden, General Manager of the Mjärdevi Science Park, and Former President of Swedepark;,Malcolm Parry, UK, Director of The Surrey Research Park; and,Luis Sanz,Spain, Director General and CEO of the IASP, and Chairman of the IASP Advisory Council.
The training workshop consists of 8 sessions, each divided in two parts: a presentation by each expert, followed by an intense discussion and a question-and-answer period. The experts will each present a case study of a Science/Technology Park, focusing on the problems that had to be faced and on the solutions implemented for those problems. After this initial presentation, participants are invited to ask as many questions as they like. The experts will also facilitate group discussions among the participants, to compare problems and explore alternative solutions.
