The fourth annual conference of the European Association of Research Managers and Administrators (EARMA) will be held in Dublin, Ireland, on 3 and 4 July 1998. The conference will be hosted by the Irish members of EARMA, in partnership with the Association's European secretariat, with input from the European Commission.

The aim of the conference is to bring together those responsible for research management in order to discuss future opportunities for funding. The conference will cover university/industry issues, optimizing research potential and anticipating current and future trends, with particular emphasis on policy and future directions of European research.

Speakers representing the European Commission, the European Science Foundation, industry and academia will present a range of topics including:

- The EU's forthcoming Fifth RTD Framework Programme: New opportunities for collaborative research;
- Non-Framework Programme opportunities for EU-supported research;
- Agenda 2000 from a research perspective;
- The new Community patent;
- The INNOVATION programme;
- Research and ethics;
- Dissemination of ideas: Exploitation and awareness of research results;
- Research management and strategy: Optimizing the individual research potential of the Member States;
- Successor programmes to the EU's Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR), and Targeted Socio-economic Research (TSER) programmes.

The conference will also include a colloquium covering topics such as electronic research administration, model consortium agreements and confidentiality agreements.
