IRE workshop 'Innovation financing at regional level'

An IRE workshop entitled Innovation Financing at regional level will take place in Prague, Czech Republic, on 15-16 November 2004.

15 November 2004 - 16 November 2004

The Innovating Regions in Europe (IRE) network brings together regions that are developing and implementing regional innovation strategies and schemes. When elaborating their Regional Innovation Strategies, regions all over Europe have identified the availability of and access to innovation financing as a challenge for SMEs with growth potential. The development of efficient mechanisms to provide companies with innovation financing can be a crucial step to increase the level of successful innovations in a region.
The conference, which is organised by the IRE Secretariat in collaboration with the Technology Centre AS CR, will bring together regional, national and European examples of ways of providing companies, in particular SMEs, with innovation financing. Funding schemes as well as initiatives to facilitate companies access to private sources of finance will be presented. The schemes to be presented include:, The Catalonian Venture Capital Fund, which targets innovative projects in all business sectors, The local guarantee scheme developed by the Polish region of Warmia and Mazury, Start-up support provided by Enterprise Estonia, Activities in the West Midlands to connect technology-based businesses with the financial resources needed for growth
The event is open to representatives of all European regions, especially those in the new EU Member States and the Accession Countries, and aim to provide an improved understanding of successful mechanisms for providing innovation finance. Practically oriented presentations will allow exchange of experience and transfer of knowledge of how to set up and run innovation financing schemes.
