The 17th Telecom Fair of the Telecommunications Managers Association Belgium (TMAB), will be held in Brussels, Belgium, from 26 to 28 May 1998. This trade fair is open to business users of telecoms and information technology solutions and provides a forum for telecoms and IT suppliers, operators and service providers. The official opening of the event will address the theme "Towards global electronic commerce" and will be presented by the Director-General for Industry (DG III) of the European Commission, and the senior advisor for policy development in the USA.

A new exhibition and three-day seminar entitled "TM@B Internet" will also be launched during the fair, and will focus on Internet business applications for professionals. The themes for the three days are:

- Marketing and communication via the Internet;
- On-line commerce;
- Internet for financial services.

A telecom forum will also be open in parallel with the fair and will involve exhibitions from the main European telecommunications companies. This will cover various topics, such as:

- SNA network evolution;
- Local loop bundling;
- ATM strategy;
- Voice over IP versus frame delay.

A round-table on call centres will also be take place in the evenings, and will address the following:

- Better financial services through call centres;
- Structuring, re-structuring, and consolidation of economic activities: The role of pan-European call centres;
- Insourcing versus outsourcing.
