Regional Information Society Forum

A Regional Information Society Forum will be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, on 24 and 25 September 1998. The Forum will be organized jointly by the Applied Research and Communications Fund in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian FEMIRC (Fellow Member to the Innovation Relay Centres network), and the Help Forward Innovation Relay Centre from Athens, Greece.
The objective of the Regional Information Society Forum will be to promote the policy and initiatives of the European Commission on the development of the Information Society. It will also aim to raise public awareness on the opportunities and challenges the Information Society creates in every sphere of social life.
The forum will bring together the key players in Bulgaria including policy-makers, governmental officials, representatives from industry, academia and NGOs, as well as representatives of other countries in the region such as Albania, Greece, FYROM and Romania.
Presentation time will be devoted to regional initiatives supporting the development of the Information Society and the opportunities for EU-CEEC cooperation. The accompanying technology day will be targeted at SMEs active in the information and communications technology field and the opportunities for business cooperation.
