Seminar on EU/Asia-Pacific R&D Collaboration

The second of a series of seminars on EU/Asia-Pacific science and technology collaboration will take place on 3 February 2005 at the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London, UK.

The objective of the seminars, which began in December 2004, is to explore areas of collaboration between the EU and the Asia Pacific region in response to the need to improve industry and academic science linkage between the two blocs.
On this occasion, the seminar, entitled "Framework Programme-Information Society Technologies", will focus on the collaboration opportunities offered by the Information Society Technologies (IST) programme of the Sixth Framework Programme for Research and Development (2002-2006) of the European Union.
The seminar will be chaired by Mr. Allan Mayo, Deputy Director, Technology Assessment Unit at the Department of Trade and Industry in London. The seminar will be addressed by Mr. Jean-Yves Roger, Principal Administrator for the International Relations unit of the Directorate General Information Society of the European Commission as well as by Mr. Jim OReilly of Ipark, London, who will comment on the case of Korean IT companies and how they can best interact with the European research landscape.
The seminar participants will include officials from the Asian country Embassies in London as well as representatives from many Asia Pacific UK-based technology firms, amongst others.
