Conference in Estonia: "Business Opportunities and Economic Development 2010+: the role of ICTs"

The PRAXIS Center for Policy Studies and Archimedes Foundation will organise on 18 February 2005 an international conference in Estonia with the title: "Business Opportunities and Economic Development in Estonia 2010+: The role of ICTs". The conference focuses on the choices small economy has in fostering knowledge-based entrepreneurship and international competitiveness.

The Government (in) action can either stimulate or constrain the possibilities of the entrepreneurs acting in market environment. For entrepreneurs, it is therefore of paramount importance to ensure that the future economic policies pursued by the Government will ensure creation of a market environment, truly conductive to economic growth.
The conference is addressing the following questions:,- Why should government pursue innovation policy;,- What should a small economy consider in creating and implementing innovation policy;,- What is the role of the entrepreneurs in the development of knowledge-based economy;,- How important are knowledge-based sectors like ICT for a country's competitiveness;,- What has been the experience of other small countries in the creation,of innovative economic environment.
The second half of the conference will convey the view of Estonia's opinion leaders' on the choices a small economy like Estonia has in elaborating and implementing innovation policy.
The conference is organized under the auspices of eVikings II project funded by European Commission DG INFSO.
The conference will take place in the Estonian Academy of Sciences and the participation is free of charge.
