ProCom'98 will be held in Vienna, Austria, from 24 to 26 August 1998. The conference will focus on "professional communication and knowledge transfer", and will also include an information session on the EU's Multilingual Information Society (MLIS) programme.

A scientific conference on professional communication, terminology and planned languages will address four aspects of terminology science, as follows:

- Information and documentation and science theory;
- LSP;
- Planned languages;
- Knowledge and language engineering.

In parallel to the scientific conference, a symposium on terminology work and knowledge transfer will be held. The overall aim of the symposium is to address best practice in terminology management and terminography. This will also feature four sessions, addressing the following:

- Cooperation in terminology;
- Terminology unification, standardization and harmonization;
- Terminography and specialized lexicography;
- Terminology management and multilingual information management.

The symposium and conference will close jointly with an address on "The emerging terminology infrastructures and the terminology market in Europe". This will be followed by a one-day conference on the EU's Multilingual Information Society (MLIS) programme, which will include a presentation of the TDCnet project entitled "European network of terminology documentation centres".

An exhibition will also be organized in conjunction with the event, and will feature exhibitions on cooperation in terminology, terminology science and planned languages, terminography and specialized lexicography.
