Urban recovery and its impact on employment

During EXPO'98 the Portuguese Directorate-General for Employment and Vocational Training is organizing an international seminar on urban recovery and its impact on employment, to be held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 1 June 1998. The aim of the seminar, supported by the European Commission, DG V and DG XXII, is to provide a forum where experience and good practice on urban recovery can be exchanged, with examples drawn from countries such as Ireland, The Netherlands, Spain and Portugal.

The focus of the seminar will be the impact of urban recovery on economic development, in particular relating to employment and vocational training. The main themes of the conference will be:

- Recovering urban zones and related impact;
- New areas that can generate employment;
- Training needs.
