Panel discussion on machine-to-machine communication at Eurescom Summit

At the Eurescom Summit 2005 in Heidelberg, a panel of international experts will discuss the challenges and opportunities of machine-to-machine communication.

27 April 2005 - 29 April 2005

Panel participants on 28 April are Dr. Volker Reible (Deutsche Telekom), Dr. Dr. Norbert Streitz (Fraunhofer IPSI), Dr. Dieter Schafhuber (BMW Group Research and Technology), and Dr. Fiona Williams (Ericsson). Moderated by Eurescom senior manager David Kennedy, the panel will explore a number of M-to-M topics that have the potential to change business and society in Europe, like, for example, self-financing machines. A controversial discussion can be expected on questions like "What is the role of the user in M-to-M scenarios? and "Who will be the winning players in the M-to-M value chain?
M-to-M communication is just one area of the emerging ubiquitous communication landscape, where services will be available whenever and wherever needed. The Eurescom Summit 2005 from 27 to 29 April offers a cross-section of the "Ubiquitous Services and Applications" of the future. In the three conference days, experts from leading industry players like Deutsche Telekom, BT, Telefónica, NTT DoCoMo, Telenor, NEC, Lucent, Ericsson, Siemens, and IBM will present their latest research results on advanced networking aspects, user-centric technology, and service platforms as well as quality of service and security in the ubiquitous domain.
This is already the fourth edition of the Eurescom Summit. The conference is organised by the European telecoms R&D organisation Eurescom in order to bridge the gap between research and commercial development of communication technologies, applications, and services.
The Eurescom Summit 2005 has been endorsed by EUREKA cluster CELTIC, the European Media Laboratory - EML, the European standards body ETSI, the IPv6 Forum, the Object Management Group OMG, and the UMTS Forum.
