The British National Society for Clean Air is organizing a two-day conference on the new European framework for air quality, to be held in London, United Kingdom, on 22 and 23 June 1998. The event will be sponsored by the European Commission and the UK Department of Environment, Transport and the Regions.

The aim of the conference is to discuss progress with the new European Air Directives and national air pollution strategies, to examine the challenges involved in implementing the Directives, and to review recent developments in air quality management in Europe. The conference will also launch the Eurocities report on air quality and identify requirements for further developing good practice.

The conference will be include a series of presentations from keynote speakers such as European Environment Commissioner, Ritt Bjerregaard and Mrs. Anita Pollack, MEP. The topics to covered at the conference will include:

- The new European Framework for Air Quality;
- The contribution of Member States;
- Informing and involving the public, industry and business;
- The Framework and Daughter Directives, and their implications at city and regional level;
- Assessing and forecasting urban air quality;
- Developing an urban air quality strategy;
- Tackling urban smog episodes.
