An IST workshop for proposers for 40 Siberian researchers, 8/9 June 2005, Tomsk, Sibirsky Region, Russia

FFG/ Austrian Research Promotion Agency and AEER/ Association for Engineering Education of Russia are organising a training workshop for Siberian researchers in Tomsk, Sibirsky Federal District, Russia, on 8th and 9th June 2005.

8 June 2005 - 9 June 2005
Russia
The aim of the workshop is to provide Siberian researchers with information on the IST priority and to train them on how to develop an IST proposal.
40 Siberian researchers, located in the different regions of the Sibirsky Federal District, such as Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Tomsk, Omsk, Barnaul and Irkutsk will come to Tomsk in order to attend the workshop. Some of them have to overcome a distance of nearly 1000 km to take part in the workshop.
The workshop is part of a range of activities of the SITE project (Siberia, Information technologies and Europe) to support Siberian reserearchers with getting involved into IST-proposals. ,This includes activities such as the setting up and training of a network of IST contact points in the Sibirsky region, the establishment of an online database with more than 300 profiles of Siberian researchers, the organisation of real and virtual brokerage events as part of European IST-conferences, support to proposal writing and the maintenance of a helpdesk for daily business with Russia.
SITE thus brings a very distant Russian region covering an area in excess of 5 million km² nearer to Europe: Sibirsky Federal District/SFD. SFD needs to be distinguished from the geographic Siberia, an even much larger entity of nearly 10 million km². SFD is one of Russia's seven federal districts and is the most central of the three Asian districts in the Russian Federation.
SFD hosts some 250 research institutes and approximately 66,400 researchers. There is considerable research potential for the IST-priority in SFD. However, there is little awareness in Europe about potential IST-project partners in Russia, and hardly anybody would start looking in SFD.
The Siberian researchers attending the above mentioned workshop are active in a number of research areas of the IST-priority. They are in particular focused on projects addressing strategic objectives included in Call5/ IST. A considerable number of these reseearchers already developed a project idea and is currently looking for partners and a coordinator in Europe.
SITE is co-ordinated by Singleimage, UK. The Austrian Research Promotion Agency and the Association of Engineering Education of Russia, represented by the Tomsk Polytechnic University are partners.,Funded as a Specific Support Action within FP6/ IST, SITE started on 1st July 2004.
