What do the EU Budget negotiations mean for FP7 and the Regions?

ERRIN kindly invites you to participate in a debate on the Financial Perspectives and the future Framework programme for Research, that will take place on 29 June at Scotland Europa- Rond Point Schuman 6, Brussels.

29 June 2005 - 29 June 2005
Belgium
The European Commission presented its proposal for the next,Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development on 6 April 2005. The proposal for FP7 envisaged a budget of 73bn to cover the period 2007-2013. This substantial increase on previous Research Programmes represented a doubling of EU funds for research and development and stressed the importance of the Lisbon Agenda as a key goal for the EU.
Last week the European Council failed to reach an agreement on the Union's financial perspectives 2007-2013. So what happens next? Will the current uncertainty surrounding the EU budget undermine the Lisbon agenda and in particular the preparation of FP7?,Regions have a great stake in ensuring that the Framework Programme is adequately funded and that the regional dimension of FP7 is enhanced. ERRIN has been engaged with the preparations for FP7 from the very beginning.
With this debate ERRIN will facilitate a dialogue between the key EU institutions and provide regions with greater clarity on the future direction of FP7 and the financial perspectives.
This debate will feature interventions from:
Mr Jerzy Buzek MEP European Parliament Rapporteur on FP7
Mr Lambert van Nistelrooij MEP- Member of the Regional Development Committee
Sir Albert Bore Committee of the Regions Rapporteur on the Financial Perspectives
Mr Kurt Vandenbergh Deputy Head of Cabinet DG Research
Mr Ben Turner United Kingdom Permanent Representation
Mr Pascal Goergen Permanent Representation of Brussels Capital Region to the EU
