Recognising the innovative potential and scientific strength of research-intensive SMEs, the EU actively seeks their participation in the Framework Programmes.
In its Life Sciences for Health programme, the EU supports translational research' and seeks to ensure that fundamental knowledge will be taken through to the application stage i.e. to develop new drugs, therapies and treatments in a way that will benefit public health and enhance the Unions economic competitiveness
For organisations engaged in health research, there is a final opportunity to access funding from the Life Sciences Genomics and Biotechnology for Health programme before the start of FP7.
The call is due to open in early July with a deadline of 9th November. The budget of the final call has reserved 171 million Euros to SME consortia in a dedicated 'SME-call'.
The SME- call is specifically designed to further stimulate the participation of SMEs in Life Sciences proposals with research-intensive SMEs expected to play leading roles in the projects. Other organisations (non-SME enterprises, Universities and research organisations) can be part of the consortia but 30-50% of the requested EC contribution should go to the SME participants.
To promote the final call and in particular the SME-call, the UK National Contact Point for Life Sciences is organising a one-day event in London, UK.
