A workshop on "performance contracts for energy efficiency in hospitals", looking in particular at third party financing for energy supply, will take place in Rome, Italy, on 30 June 1998. The event is organized by the Istituto Cooperativo per l'Innovazione (ICIE), an Italian member of the OPET (Organizations for the Promotion of Energy Technologies) network.

The workshop will look at a specific project developed by ICIE, which has developed a model contract for third party financing for energy-related projects. This model contract enables the financing of projects aimed at achieving energy savings, where the required performance can be guaranteed, with the costs being recovered from the energy saving obtained.

The workshop will outline the methodology, before presenting a case study of such a contract applied to the Casale Monferrato Hospital in Piemonte. Other case studies of third party financing in countries such as Germany and Spain will also be presented.
