The 1st European Energy Policy Conference: Shaping the Future of the Energy Industry in Europe

The first in a series of events set to run annually over the next five years, the 1st Annual European Energy Policy conference has been specifically developed to provide stakeholders with a regular opportunity to come together and discuss major policy issues surrounding energy in Europe, as the long term future of the sector begins to take shape.

21 November 2005 - 22 November 2005

Andris Piebalgs, the EU Commissioner for Energy, concluded in a recent speech that the next five years will be a "... 'watershed period' for energy policy", and he did so with good reason. With the continued search for a viable, long-term solution to the issues of sustainability and security of supply and the complex tasks of regulating and making a success of the liberalised internal market, the next few years are going to be crucially important for everybody involved in energy in Europe. It is therefore vital that constructive discussions take place and that the correct decisions are made now by both stakeholders and policymakers - not only for the obvious reason of continuation of reliable energy supplies at affordable prices for EU citizens, but also to ensure the continued competitiveness and growth of the entire continent.
With this in mind, the 1st Annual European Energy Policy conference is the first in a series of five annual events discussing European energy policy that have been strategically timed to span this period of immense importance and transition for the industry and Europe as a whole.
The events will provide stakeholders with a regular opportunity to keep abreast of topical legislative issues, and a platform for discussion and debate. In bringing together key players including policy makers, industry representatives, regulators and NGOs, it is envisaged that real progress can be made in strengthening the level of debate and in helping to shape and secure the long-term future of energy in Europe.

This year's inaugural event will look to create a legislative framework to secure the future of energy in Europe.
Day 1 will begin by setting the context for the debate, and we will hear perspectives from some of the major stakeholders and political figures, with discussions centring on how they see the development of future of the energy industry in Europe. Focus will then be given to the specific issue of attracting more inward investment into the sector and we will analyse in detail some of the policy issues surrounding the creation of an environment that is attractive for investors.
Day 2 will look at the perspectives and logistical arguments surrounding the compatibility of national and European energy policies, and look at the various legislative options for sustainable security. Looking to the future, discussions will concentrate on the next steps following liberalisation and attempt to answer the question - what comes next after the opening of the European energy market?' ,This is your chance to be part of the shaping of the long-term future of the energy industry in Europe!
Questions and overall interaction from the audience will be actively encouraged at the event and this will be an ideal opportunity for you to put your points to some of the top policy and decision makers in the industry. Delegates will also be provided with a great forum for networking with industry peers, and should you wish us to organise a private or group meeting with anybody at the event, then please let us know and we will do our very best to arrange this for you.
