The Canadian Advanced Technology Association (CATA) will organize its 13th annual conference in Ottawa, Canada, from 2 to 4 June 1998. The conference entitled "Science city: Thriving on the new frontier" is targeted at business leaders from Canada and abroad and aims to share experiences and insights into the components for market success. A presentation on the EU's specific RTD programme for Information Technologies (ESPRIT) and research results from other programmes will be featured during the conference.

The conference will include a technology exhibition, presentations of several case studies, the presentation of CATA awards of distinction and student scholarships. Plenary sessions will address the issues related to the emergence and success attributes of science cities. A series of workshops devoted to networking, company case studies and education will also be held in parallel with the plenary sessions.

The conference will provide the opportunity to meet with potential partners from Canada, the US and Europe. Meetings can be arranged in advance for conference participants. A series of seminars on how to help SMEs overcome barriers in doing business in Europe will be led by experts in trade, financing, venture capital, intellectual property protection, technology transfer and deal-making in Europe.
