A common exhibition of Networked Audiovisual Systems and Home Platforms (NAVSHP) projects was successfully held during the international IBC 2005 Trade Show in Amsterdam. These projects exhibit the state of the art of the technological development in the Audiovisual Sector and are funded by the European Commission under the FP6 Programme on Research and Technological Development.

Organized by the supporting project AVISTA, the exhibition hosted eight projects. The projects were gathered up in “thematic islands” according to their research area. These islands were: Convergence (ENTHRONE and INSTINCT), Residential gateway (EPERSPACE and MEDIANET), MPEG 21 (DANAE and TIRAMISU), 3D (COHERENT) and Interactive TV (MHP CONFIDENCE). Other projects like PULSERS, TEAHA, WCAM, MHP-KDB did also participate through presentations in the theatre.

During the exhibition, the personnel in NAVSHP IST Village, a team of both AVISTA and exhibiting projects, informed visitors interested on the NAVSHP Strategic objective and New Media Council activities. There were many important visitors from industry representatives, members of public bodies of several countries, business persons, researchers, technology experts, etc.

At the Theatre, presentations contained a wide range of subjects, attracting the interest of the audience. These theatre presentations allowed another 4 projects to explain their results.

The European Commission D2 Head of Unit, Mr. Luis Rodríguez-Roselló, kindly visited the NAVSHP IST Village on September 12th, expressing great interest on the demonstrations organized by the projects and congratulating AVISTA and exhibiting projects for the satisfactory common exhibition achieved. He also noted that “this common exhibition of NAVSHP projects is a very important dissemination effort communicating to the public on the outcome of the research activities of the projects which belong to the European Commission Sixth Framework Programme (FP6)”.

Last but not least, the NMC Session "Innovation for New Media", held on September 13th, contributed to disseminate the latest progress on New Media research, including, in particular, the Digital Rights Management requirements for research.

More than 43,000 visitors, a number which means a 5% growth over the last year, make the IBC as a very important fair concerning the audiovisual sector in Europe. In this context, the NAVSHP IST Village, which showed the results achieved by a significant number of the projects involved in the NAVSHP strategic objective with the support of the European Commission, was certainly a protagonist.

AVISTA is a Specific Support Action project within the NAVSHP strategic objective, funded by the European Commission FP6 programme. It aims at supporting the FP6 projects in this area in a number of topics: concertation, projects portfolio, standardization, New Media Council, common exhibitions, future research, etc. AVISTA partners are: ROSE Vision (Coordinator), TELVIUM, INSTITUT FUER RUNDFUNKTECHNIK GMBH (IRT), PHILIPS ELECTRONICS NEDERLAND B.V. TELEDIFFUSION DE FRANCE.
