First user workshop on the Geological Electronic Information Exchange System
The GEIXS system is based on a dedicated server and a multilingual geoscience thesaurus, and will allow rapid access through the World Wide Web to the vast sources of harmonized public domain geoscience metadata collected by the European Geological Surveys since the early 1800s. Ongoing project work includes developing compliance with world metadata standards and the extension of GEIXS to the Baltic countries and those of Central and Eastern Europe.
The workshop will include interactive sessions to encourage potential users to contribute to the future development and uptake of the project. The workshop should be of interest to a wide variety of users of geospatial metadata in areas such as:
- Natural resource industries;
- Land use, government and infrastructure planning;
- Civil engineering and waste disposal;
- Environmental and pollution control sectors;
- Coastal planning and global change;
- Insurance and banking;
- Universities and research establishments.
