A conference entitled "Preparing for EMU: the IT challenge" will be held in London, United Kingdom, on 2 and 3 June 1998. The aim of the conference is to identify the issues relating to the impact of the euro on critical information systems. Participants will be offered comprehensive, action-oriented guidance on how to successfully plan and implement an EMU/IT programme.

The conference will cover a range of topics to be presented by European experts and IT practitioners with EMU project experience, including:

- Exploring the regulatory guidelines for IT;
- Deriving a common approach to EMU/IT preparation;
- Creating a flexible and robust EMU plan;
- Developing an EMU checklist;
- Taking a phased approach to the euro changeover;
- Exploiting the competitive challenge of the euro;
- Gaining economies of scale by outsourcing.

The conference will also feature an interactive "master-class", entitled "six steps to successful EMU/IT implementation". This will cover the most important phases of an EMU/IT programme and will enable participants to assess their own organizations' progress against best practice case studies presented. Workshop leaders will also be available to assess and give advice on individual EMU projects.
