EuroSpi'98, a European conference on software process improvement (SPI), will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden, from 16 to 18 November 1998. The conference will be supported by the European Commission, within the framework of a number of programmes including ESPRIT and LEONARDO DA VINCI, and projects under the European Systems and Software Initiative (ESSI).

The purpose of the conference is to present and discuss practical results from software improvement projects in industry, focusing on the benefits gained and the criteria for success. It is targeted at those who are concerned with the management and improvement of organizational processes and the effective use of information systems and software processes. In addition, those interested in developing efficient and profitable work processes should also gain from the conference.

The conference organizers are currently inviting papers on any of the broad topics to be covered during the conference:

- SPI and returns on investment;
- SPI action planning;
- SPI culture;
- Making SPI happen;
- Measuring benefits from SPI;
- Implementing SPI;
- Team work environments favouring SPI;
- Success and failure criteria in SPI;
- SPI models and standards;
- Tailoring SPI for small companies;
- The future of SPI.
