A workshop on "Quality criteria for computed tomography" will be held in Aarhus, Denmark, on 13 and 14 November 1998. The event will be organized within the framework of the EU-supported concerted action on computed tomography.

Computed tomography is considered as a special practice which involves high doses to the patient, and the workshop will pay particular attention to quality assurance programmes such as quality control measures and patient dose. A working document on quality criteria has been produced under action. This will provide the required clinical information in its optimal form, with minimum doses for the patient.

The aim of this workshop is to discuss the working document before its final publication, in order to incorporate comments from external experts. Pilot studies and surveys will also be presented during the workshop. The establishment of a reference database on computed tomography dosimetry, in order to initiate new ideas, contribute to the dissemination of criteria and to promote the implementation of the concept will also be discussed.
