New emerging technologies for handling environmental information

A seminar on new emerging technologies for information handling, and related issues in environmental information, will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 1 July 1998, in the European Commission pavilion at EXPO'98. The seminar is organized by the European Commission, DG XIII, in cooperation with the Portuguese National Focal Point for the Libraries sector of the Telematics Applications programme and the Portuguese MIDAS-Net Node.

The aim of the seminar will be to present and demonstrate the results of projects funded within the EU's Telematics Applications and INFO2000 programmes. Highlights of the seminar will include a presentation from a representative of the European Environment Agency, on current issues in environmental information, and an introduction to the Commission's (DG XIII) initiatives in this field.

The projects to be presented during the seminar will include:

- UNIVERSE (Telematics Applications for Libraries);
- TWENTY ONE (Telematics Application for Information Engineering);
- BALTICSEAWEB (Telematics Applications for Libraries);
- POLAR PERSPECTIVES (INFO2000);
- O TEMPO PORTUGUES (INFO2000).
