A summer school entitled "Networking and intelligent regions in new Europe", will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 6 to 9 September 1998. The event will receive support from the European Commission as part of the Intelligent Regions project of the LEONARDO DA VINCI programme. The aim of the event is to discuss the new threats and opportunities for firms and regions posed by globalization and enlargement of the EU.

The summer school will focus on four main themes that are central to the new challenges faced by development bodies across Europe:

- Networking regions: The institutional aspects of successful regions;
- Innovation, technology transfer and networking: Knowledge and information transfer inside and outside the region;
- Changing institutions and strategies: How development bodies and other relevant organizations can be managed to the advantage of a region;
- Networking in Europe: Lessons to be learned from well-networked regions.

The summer school will be lead by a team of European researchers and practitioners from development agencies, universities and research institutes. The event will comprise a series of plenary sessions and a workshop to discuss the different experiences of participants.
