A regional conference on the implications of developments in electronic commerce for business, will be held in Manchester, United Kingdom, on 8 September 1998. The conference will be organized by the European Commission, with support from the G7 pilot project "Global marketplace for SMEs".

Various aspects of electronic commerce will be presented during the conference, by business leaders and experts in the field, including the following:

- The role of good information security;
- The global politics of electronic commerce;
- Developing electronic commerce in SMEs;
- Electronic legal issues of particular concern to SMEs;
- Legal aspects of digital signatures in Europe;
- Electronic commerce in support of domestic and international trade;
- Survey of architectures for collaborative engineering;
