The French Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (INRIA) will organize a conference on fracture and fatigue in industrial materials, to be held in Rocquencourt, France, from 21 to 23 September 1998.

The aim of the conference is to present the state-of-the-art in mechanical, mathematical and numerical modelling relating to the fracture and fatigue phenomena in industrial materials, and to present related industrial applications solutions. The target audience includes those with a background in science, engineering, applied maths or physics.

The topics to be presented during the conference will include the following:

- Ductile failure of metals;
- Multi-scale methods for the calculation of polycyclic fatigue in structures;
- Cavitation instabilities in ductile materials;
- Applications of cohesive zone models in the analysis of failure;
- Recent extensions to the Gürson model for porous ductile materials;
- Numeric simulation of ductile rupture in Framatome;
- Intergranular creep rupture at elevated temperatures;
- Rupture and damage in composite materials;
- Leakage and damage at high temperatures of the steel tanks of nuclear reactors.
