The European Environmental Research Institute will organize a five-day training course on measurements of organic compounds in drinking and surface water. This will be held in Ioannina, Greece, from 6 to 10 July 1998, as amended from previous announcements which foreseen the course taking place in September 1998. The event will receive funding from the European Commission, DG XII, within the framework of the Standards, Measurements and Testing (SMT) research programme.

The aim of the course is to give an introduction and overview on the state-of-the-art of analytical methods for the determination of organic compounds in water. It will also present case studies on the occurrence and fate of organic pollutants in natural waters. The specific topics to be covered include:

- Endocrine disrupters;
- Degradation and biodegradation of organic pollutants;
- Oxygenated organic by-products;
- Quality assurance in laboratory practice.
