Successful Presentations to International Audiences

Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe's training centre (FTU) offers a training course on Successful Presentations in cooperation with the European Association of Research Managers and Administrators (EARMA). The event will take place in Karlsruhe, Germany, on 24-25 April 2006.

24 April 2006 - 25 April 2006
Austria
Most people are just not very good at communicating their ideas to others. Communication is not what you say - it is how listeners understand it. They only have one chance to listen to your talk and can't "re-read" it when they get confused. Therefore, it is important to think about what you want to say and more important, how you say it. Creating an effective presentation takes planning and practice.

The course delivers the theoretical background and tools for successful presentations at national and international conferences or meetings and in front of smaller groups by showing the key principles. It also gives you substantial support to achieve your goals by practising presentations. There will be a strong focus on individual feedback. The aim of this course is to gain more confidence when presenting in English.

The following topics will be covered:
- Designing a plan of the presentations' preparation
- Appreciating the importance of structure
- Identifying helpful and unhelpful body language
- Demonstrating the use of a variety of visual aids including multi-media technology
- Considering intercultural aspects for international audiences
- Delivering effective presentations.

The course is designed for all people who occasionally or frequently deliver presentations to national and international audiences and want to improve their performance.
