EURO-Environment'98, the first pan-European conference and exhibition on industry and the environment will be held in Aalborg, Denmark, from 23 to 25 September 1998 and will be opened by the European Environment Commissioner, Mrs. Ritt Bjerregaard.

The event will focus on three main aspects of industrial and environmental issues, including the presentation of concrete industrial initiatives, a debate on self-regulation within industry and a discussion of stakeholder issues.

Examples of the specific topics to be covered during the conference include:

- Corporate environmental management: an important strategic element;
- Case studies on implementing environmental management strategies;
- Integrated environmental management: education and training;
- Combining environment, health and safety;
- Auditing and reporting;
- Environmentally sound product development;
- Cleaner production;
- Plenary session on self-regulation versus public regulation;
