NC'98, an international symposium on neural computation, will be held in Vienna, Austria, from 23 to 25 September 1998.

The symposium will serve as a discussion forum for scientists and practitioners in the field of neural networks, and will focus on the computational aspects, from convergence theory, numerical aspects and hybrid systems through to neural software and hardware. The commercial and other practical applications of the technology will also be discussed.

The workshop will comprise a series of presentations from invited speakers and will feature workshops and demonstrations. The topics to be addressed during the conference will fall into three main categories: neural network theory, tools and hardware implementation, and applications. Specific topics to be covered during the plenary sessions will include:

- Learning sparse representations;
- Spiking neurons;
- Models of visual awareness in a multi-module neural network.
