The European pathfinder project on quantum computing
The project should produce a report recommending future actions to encourage QCC in Europe over the next few years. Partners in the project include some of the leading academic and industrial research centres in Europe.
The first phase of the project will involve information gathering and dissemination to identify all those working in this diverse field. The structure, aims and achievements of their work will be examined. This exercise will culminate in a conference to be held in Helsinki, Finland, from 26 to 28 September 1998.
The conference aims to provoke and stimulate debate on QCC-related issues, rather than simply provide a series of presentations from individuals. The expected result will be a clear framework for pursuing QCC into the next century, examining the difficulties to be overcome and giving the Commission suggestions on where to target research funds.
A report will be compiled after the conference outlining the main aims of the project. It will include definitions for each area of the subject, reports on the major areas of application, details of the progress made and the challenges that face researchers, and recommendations for funding priorities.
