Research on the mobility and land-use relationship

A conference presenting the results of the SESAME project, funded under the EU's transport research programme, will be held in Lyon, France, from 23 to 25 September 1998. The overall aim of the project is to facilitate policy decisions on mobility and land use, by compiling and exploiting a pan-European database.

The project focused on improving the state of knowledge on the interactions between land use, behaviour patterns, and travel demand, by providing:

- A selected choice of transport and land use indicators;
- A detailed description of data sources and definitions;
- A pan-European database built with these indicators;
- A qualitative and quantitative analysis of the indicators.

The results of the project will be presented through four workshops:

- Key findings on land use and transport;
- Data collection issues focusing on the methodological aspects of the project;
- Policy implications from data analysis;
- Presentation of the improvement and extension of the SESAME database.
