The European Organisation for Testing and Certification will hold a workshop on Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs) in Brussels, Belgium, on 21 and 22 September 1998. The aim of the event is to discuss the latest developments in the use of MRAs and the advantages of more uniform assessments from a government and industrial point of view.

The focus of the workshop will be on the use of MRAs and will comprise presentations from representatives of all levels of government and the voluntary sector. The following will be discussed in detail:

- Agreements to reduce technical barriers;
- International metrology at the base;
- The EU and third countries;
- The voluntary sector and international and European schemes and world interfaces;
- European accreditation - a facilitator;
- Summary of the pressing issues covering recognition or acceptance of MRAs and market surveillance.
