The second international forum on Information Society technology users will be held in Sophia Antipolis, France, on 19 and 20 October 1998. The aim of the conference is to address the issue of overcoming barriers to increased use of new technologies in SMEs.

The conference will be structured along two tracks, the collective use of new technologies and knowledge transfer in the areas of network interoperability, network management, billing, reliability and security. It will discuss the applicability of results from research and will identify requirements to ensure the smooth and rapid deployment of these technologies in the industrial and commercial sectors.

Some of the projects to be presented during the conference have been funded under the EU's research programme in the area of advanced communication technologies and services (ACTS). Projects taking part and giving demonstrations will include:

- ACTranS on providing transaction services for the new telecoms industry;
- SEMPER on constructing a secure electronic marketplace for Europe;
- TRUMPET on delivering data integrity for tele-medecine and education.
