The second international symposium on sustainable production will be held in Venice, Italy, on 8 and 9 October 1998, supported by the European Commission within the framework of the research programme in the field of Industrial Materials and Technologies (BRITE-EURAM). The aim of the event is to provide a forum for the exchange of information between academics, industry and those responsible for scientific research and environmental policy from all over the world.

Discussions during the symposium will focus on a more comprehensive approach to sustainable development, considering in detail both the role of the manufacturing system in the achievement of product sustainability and the whole life cycle of a product. The event aims to help define legislative requirements needed to achieve such sustainability including innovative environmental strategies and priorities for new activities.
