An international conference on the effective and efficient provision and management of parking within the urban economy will be held in London, United Kingdom, on 17 and 18 September 1998. The conference, which will be organised by the journal "Parking Review", in association with "Urban Environment Today", will discuss key issues related to parking and organise study visits to advanced parking facilities and operations rooms.

Parking management in urban areas must reconcile a number of competing aims, revenue generation, serving the economic needs of an area and contributing to traffic restraint and sustainable transport policies. Discussions will fall under two main headings, parking and the urban economy and parking policy, management and control.

The following topics will be discussed in detail:

- Car parks are for people;
- Car parks and town centres;
- Getting the buildings right;
- Setting standards for safety and security;
- Setting the policy framework;
- Making a successful business of parking;
- Enforcement of controls and regulations.
