A conference and exhibition entitled "InfoCity Bristol 1998" will be held in Bristol, United Kingdom, on 11 and 12 September 1998. The conference will be supported by the EU's Information Society Project Office (ISPO) and the Bristol City Council. The aim of the conference is to explore access to, and the limits of, the Information Society within Europe.

A number of sessions during the conference will address the following:

- The nature and strategic aims of Bristol's Information Society initiatives and the democratic, social and economic benefits;
- Social issues in the context of access to the Information Society;
- Participatory democracy and the Information Society: a joint open meeting of the Information Society Forum working groups;
- Economic issues in the context of access to the Information Society;
- Bridging the gap: technology to the rescue;
- Bridging the gap: political will or popular demand.

A series of workshops and presentations will end the conference and will discuss issues such as the community and the media, getting best value from IT in the community and education and the Internet. The exhibition, which will run in parallel to the conference, will aim to emphasise the positive aspects of new technology, with contributions from academic, commercial and artistic exhibitors.
