Case studies in environmental education and research

The fifth conference on environmental education will be held in Zürich, Switzerland, from 15 to 17 April 1999. The conference will be organised by the Association of University Departments of Environmental Science in Europe. The aim of the conference is to examine teaching methods and the latest developments in teaching-related research in environmental sciences at university level.

The focus of the conference will be on case studies in higher education. This is thought to be particularly relevant for environmental education and research as it may be considered an appropriate approach to understanding and mastering complex real-world environmental problems.

The topics to be covered during the conference will include:

- Pattern and prototypical examples of case studies in higher education and research;
- Cooperative problem-solving between different sciences and between science and society and industry and governments;
- Epistemological and didactic principles;
- Special interest sessions dealing with questions related to environmental education.

The conference organisers are currently seeking submissions from those interested in presenting either oral presentations or poster sessions during the conference.
