Scientific research and Mediterranean cooperation within a European framework

A conference on "scientific research and Mediterranean cooperation within a European framework" will be held in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, on 17 and 18 September 1998. The event will be organised by the University of the Balearic Islands, a partner in the CENEMES Innovation Relay Centre for the Spanish Mediterranean region. The objective of the meeting is to create a multidisciplinary discussion forum where public administrations, academic institutions and other sectors involved in research and technological development, will be represented.

The main topics to be discussed during the conference will include:

- Impact of information and communication technologies in Mediterranean cooperation strategies, both in relation to RTD aspects and to socio-economic changes;
- Natural resources and environment covering sustainable development and management of scarce natural resources;
- Technology transfer mechanisms focusing on the Mediterranean area.
