A workshop on stochastic modelling and analysis of communication networks will be held in Lund, Sweden, from 1 to 3 October 1998. The event is organised by two research networks - Stochastic Analysis and its Applications, funded by the Nordic Academy of Advanced Study, and the Swedish National Network in Applied Mathematics, funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research - with support from the EU's Advanced Communications Technologies and Services (ACTS) programme.

The workshop will cover a broad spectrum of questions ranging from theoretical to applied aspects, from recent progress in probability and statistics to the real impact this has on our understanding of the behaviour and performance of communications networks. The workshop will focus on three themes:

- Long-range dependence;
- Large deviations;
- Matrix-analytic methods.
