COST Telecommunications conference 1998

A conference aimed at bringing together researchers in the telecommunications field to explore the opportunities offered by the COST initiative will take place in Madrid, Spain, on 25 and 26 September 1998. Aimed in particular at researchers without previous experience of participating in COST Actions, the event will explore the possibilities of COST cooperation and also look at links between COST and the upcoming EU Fifth Framework Programme in the telecoms field.
The opening session will feature presentations of a number of different initiatives for cooperative research, showing how they interact and where COST fits in the overall structure. A second session will be conducted jointly with the International Distributed Conference (IDC'98), taking place in Lisbon. This session will focus on teleworking and new technologies to develop remote working and learning.
Presentations will be made of experiences in cooperative projects in the telecoms field, with the focus on key elements in partnership and the special conditions which apply to cross-border collaboration. The final session will focus on inter-action between COST and the User-friendly Information Society programme in the upcoming Fifth Framework Programme, and will look in detail at the COST mechanisms. Following the conclusion of the main sessions, participants will have the possibility to meet in small groups to discuss ideas for possible cooperation.
