A conference entitled "Making standards for the market" is being organised in Nice, France, on 17 and 18 November 1998, by the three European standards organisations, CEN, CENELEC and ETSI. This annual event allows the three organisations to open a dialogue with interested parties, in particular users, consumers, unions and trade associations, industry, and politicians.

Three topics will be addressed by this year's conference:

- User and consumer involvement;
- Electronic working in standardisation;
- National and international standards in a global marketplace.

Speakers from the three organisations and individuals involved in the standards process will introduce each topic. Each session will close with a wide-ranging round-table discussion involving the speakers and participants.
