Forum for Virtual Mobility Forum in European Higher Education at Online Educa Berlin 2006

At this year’s Online Educa Berlin, the 12th International Conference for Technology Supported Learning and Training, Being Mobile and the VICTORIOUS project are organising a one day Forum on European Cooperation in Education through Virtual Mobility on Tuesday, November 28.

28 November 2006 - 28 November 2006
Austria
By the year 2011 three million European students shall take part in the Erasmus Programme, as stated in the European Commission's Integrated Action Programme in Lifelong Learning. Universities and colleges are placing more and more emphasis on the importance of internationalisation but not all students and university staff members are able to take part in exchange programmes. Virtual Erasmus or Virtual Mobility schemes are using Information and Communication technologies to obtain the same benefits as one would have with physical mobility. They allow higher education students the opportunity to gain experience in international projects or internships without leaving home.

Several educational Virtual Mobility initiatives have been conducted in different countries in recent years, many of whom are largely unaware of one another. But when such an activity or project comes to an end, what is the next step, if any? The European project Being Mobile disseminates information about virtual mobility for students and teachers through handbook, a web site and a workshop.

At this year’s Online Educa Berlin, the 12th International Conference for Technology Supported Learning and Training, Being Mobile and the VICTORIOUS project are organising a one day Forum on European Cooperation in Education through Virtual Mobility on Tuesday, November 28. The forum brings together experts and practitioners in the area of Virtual and Physical Mobility. It is a mix of presentation and discussion formats, combining case examples and practical experience with discussions and brain-storming exercises in an effort to come up with clear advice and good practice that others can use in their own Virtual Mobility schemes.

It is aimed at those managers, teachers and administrators who wish to set up Virtual Mobility schemes themselves and who are looking for both potential partners as well as practical information about setting up Virtual Mobility opportunities for students and supporting students in their present use of ICT. The purpose of the forum is to draw together check-lists, tips and useful information which will be included in the publications made by the Being Mobile and VICTORIOUS project teams. The participation is free of charge.
