An Information Day presenting the new "Creating a User-friendly Information Society" research programme, due to be launched within the EU's upcoming Fifth RTD Framework Programme will be held in London, United Kingdom, on 23 October 1998. The event is organised by the Institute for European Trade and Technology (IETT), on behalf of the UK Department of Trade and Industry and the European Commission.

Under the new programme research into all aspects of Information Society technologies will be grouped together, with problem-oriented Key Actions receiving the major share of the funding. The Information Day will provide UK researchers in the information and communications technologies field with details of the new programme, assisting them in planning their participation.

During the event, participants will see a number of successful projects supported under previous programmes. After seeing presentations of the opportunities to be offered by the new programme, they will be able to ask questions of Commission and DTI staff. In addition they will be able to meet individually with potential project partners and specialist advisers to discuss specific issues.
