A European conference on electronic commerce entitled "Cashing in on the Internet - the growth of electronic commerce and electronic cash in Europe" will be held in Brussels, Belgium, on 17 November 1998. The event will be organised by Forum Europe in association with the American Electronics Association and will bring together senior business executives and officials from the EU institutions.

Discussions will focus on the global growth in electronic commerce and will consider developments in the regulation of electronic commerce and financial transactions, technological developments, straight through processing and Internet banking. Key features will include an opening address from the Director-General of DG XIII of the European Commission, Mr Robert Verrue.

The specific sessions of the conference will cover the following:

- How well is Europe doing?
- Should companies make electronic commerce rules?
- Will banks survive the electronic cash revolution?
- Can new technology help Europe close the gap?
