A workshop on coastal research will be held in Egmond, The Netherlands, from 2 to 6 November 1998. This will bring together researchers involved in the COAST 3D project, partly funded within the framework of the EU's Marine Science and Technology programme (MAST). The workshop is open to all those involved in coastal research.

One of the most important aims of the project is to produce a set of tools and guidelines for practical coastal zone management. A project database will also be constructed, to contain all the calibrated and reduced datasets from the experiments.

During the workshop, on-site modelling will be carried out, allowing modellers direct experience with the field site, and enabling inter-comparisons of models and methodologies. This will also allow modellers to obtain an initial indication of model performance. The workshop will provide participants outside the project with the opportunity to meet with other modellers and exchange ideas, to see the experiment in progress and perform model runs, and to compare results on common data sets.
